Sahba’s Salon returns October 19th with special guest Bridget Quinn!

Bridget is a brilliant art historian whose recent book, Portrait of a Woman, was described by Publishers Weekly as “a deliciously inventive biography of Adélaïde Labille-Guiard (1749–1803), an overlooked portraitist for the family of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.”

During this discussion, we’ll use her book as a prompt to discuss the ever-essential need for women to support each other.

WITH SHUBHRA SINHA

It was such a privilege to host the talented Shubhra Sinha! She spoke about the richness of Indian Classical music, dance, and culture and we got to experience her incredible performance!

Thank you to all who came! I'm filled with gratitude from your feedback about my latest Spring Series. It's always wonderful and inspiring to spend time with like-minded people. I look forward to seeing you again at the next salon - stay tuned!

Cheers,

Sahba

This salon featured the supremely talented composer & Stanford professor Mark Applebaum, in conversation with acclaimed musicologist & also-Stanford professor Charles Kronengold.

Mark’s musical TED Talk has been seen by more than one million viewers worldwide, and I’m deeply honored to have welcomed him to my studio for a performance + discussion!

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS BRIDGET QUINN AND JULIE LYTHCOTT-HAIMS

This very special salon – “Women, Art and Power” – featured a conversation with the wildly artistic, creative and powerful Bridget Quinn and Julie Lythcott-Haims!

Bridget Quinn is a writer, art history scholar and educator. Her new book Broad Strokes: 15 Women Who Made Art and Made History is a feisty look at the lives, legacies and artworks of fifteen significant – and too often ignored – women artists. Named a Top 10 by Publishers Weekly for Spring 2017 in Memoirs/Biographies, O, the Oprah Magazine says of Broad Strokes, “Your Art History 101 syllabus just got a lot more fun.” Julie Lythcott-Haims writes, thinks, and speaks about the human condition. She is particularly interested in each of us having the chance to make our way in the world and in the obstacles that can get in the way. Her memoir on race, Real American, will be out in August. She is also the author of the New York Times bestseller How to Raise an Adult which gave rise to a TED talk that became one of the top talks of 2016.

AN ARTFUL EVENING WITH A STANFORD FELLOW

What an inspiring, candlelit evening at my this salon with special guest Daniela Pinheiro, an award winning journalist and Stanford Knight Fellow! It was a provocative conversation exploring the future of journalism, technology, culture and philosophy - and so fascinating to hear about her coverage of the Democratic and Republican Primaries!

Thank you to all who came- the turnout was amazing! And a huge thank you for the beautiful feedback of my latest paintings! As always, it is such an inspiration to spend time with like-minded people and I look forward to seeing you and your guests as my Salon Series continues.

My inspiration to host these gatherings comes from my wonderful family. Growing up, my parents regularly hosted dinner parties and artist salons in our home, where I was fortunate to be constantly surrounded by fascinating and creative individuals, inspiring performances and stimulating conversation. It is my great pleasure to open up my artistic home to my friends, their friends, and their friends' friends for the same!

This special SAHBA Salon featured the remarkable work of International Medical Corp, a global nonprofit whose work I'm proud to support. We screened their new film "War & Grace" - a documentary that celebrates courageous midwives fighting for mothers and infants in war-torn South Sudan and honors the frontline health workers across the globe who put their lives at risk every day to serve those devastated by war, disaster, famine and disease.

TWO WOMEN LEADERS DRIVING CHANGE HERE AND ACROSS THE WORLD

For this salon, I was honored to be in conversation with two fabulous female leaders and dearest friends who are driving positive change at the community and global level and took the roads less traveled to get there.

Nicole Taylor, CEO of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, will talk about her path to leadership and her approach to community change today. Uzra Zeya, CEO and President of the Alliance for Peacebuilding, the world’s leading global network for organizations working to end violent conflict and sustain peace, will talk about her journey from the hallowed halls of diplomacy to grassroots advocacy for a more peaceful world.

Both Nicole and Uzra are firm believers in collective action for good and innovation to counter rising polarization, inequality, and injustice. They look forward to engaging with you on the role we all can play in building more just, prosperous, and inclusive societies, at home and abroad.

She also served as Deputy Executive Secretary to Secretaries Rice and Clinton. She is the recipient of the French Legion of Honor, France’s highest civilian award.

For the past several years, I've hosted SAHBA Salons at my Palo Alto art studio, bringing together those who love art and the art of good conversation with some of the Bay Area's most creative + inspiring thinkers and doers.

This marked my inaugural San Francisco SAHBA Salon at Minnesota Street Project, where my new solo show, ethereal landscape, was on exhibition at Themes+Projects gallery.
